Where My Drive Took Root
“Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.”
—Mark Black
In May 2020, I moved to Salt Lake City and unknowingly planted myself right on top of my Mars IC line—Mars, the planet of action, drive, and assertion, and the IC (Imum Coeli), the most private angle of the chart, representing home, roots, and the inner world.
From the moment I arrived, everything was in motion—fast, relentless, and often exhausting. In just under three years, I changed jobs three times. I moved there for one role, stayed a year, then shifted to a remote job that had me traveling full-time across the country. Shortly after, I stepped into a Director of Operations position, launching me into my most intense work and travel schedule to date. My salary nearly doubled in that time.
It was constant movement—inside and out.
I was working around the clock, flying over 100,000 miles two years in a row, barely sitting still. But it wasn’t just the work—it was the energy of everything: my home life, my career, my inner transformation. I was building something, burning through limits, testing my endurance. Mars doesn’t do quiet, and it doesn’t do rest. My Mars IC line demanded all of it.
And somehow—I loved it.
I was finally in a space where my ambition could breathe and burn. I discovered new edges of myself. I expanded not just in miles but in confidence, clarity, and leadership. Salt Lake was a furnace, and I came out sharper.
But the hustle took a toll. There were days when the fatigue wasn’t just physical—it was a heaviness in my chest, a quiet ache beneath the surface. The endless travel meant missing moments I didn’t realize mattered until they’d passed. I felt the sharp pang of loneliness in airport terminals, the hum of exhaustion under city lights, and the restless yearning for something steadier.
What Salt Lake taught me was this: drive without boundaries becomes its own kind of cage. Burning bright can lead to burning out.
But in that fire, I found my limits—and my desires. I learned that moving fast is exhilarating, but it has to be balanced with stillness. That ambition can ignite growth, but only if you honor the parts of yourself that need rest, care, and grounding.
Salt Lake City wasn’t just where my career soared—it was where I first truly felt the cost and the gift of relentless motion.
